Iran is considering an invitation it says it has received to join the Mecca Joint Defense Treaty, which was signed this month by Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan, as the Middle East faces a major security shift.
Mehdi Rahimi, head of Iran’s official parliamentary news agency, said in an interview on Sunday with Al Mayadeen television that Tehran had been extended an invitation to join the treaty, and Iranian leaders were currently evaluating it.
“Iran has received an invitation to join the Mecca Treaty, and the matter is being examined,” Rahimi said.
He welcomed efforts by regional states to build their own security mechanisms, saying Iran has long called for Middle Eastern countries to reduce their reliance on foreign powers.
Rahimi said the recent war with Iran had shown regional countries, as he put it, that the United States failed to deliver the defense promises that it has been pledging to the gulf-states in more than half century.

However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has yet to officially confirm the invitation, and neither Saudi Arabia, Turkey nor Pakistan have commented on whether Tehran has been formally invited to the agreement.
The New defense pact:
The Mecca Joint Defense Agreement was signed in Mecca on August 7 by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The key clause of the agreement states that an attack on one of the three countries is considered an attack on all three, a principle comparable to the principle in Article 5 of the NATO treaty.
If Iran joins this alliance, it will end an era of American and Isreal domination in the middle east region and it will mark unprecedented re-unification of Muslim world under one command that will utterly shifts the power in the international system as multipolarity become reality today.
