The most recent school shooting in Sweden occurred on Friday, August 21, 2026, when an 18-year-old man armed with a sword attacked students at Brinell High School (Brinellskolan) in the central Swedish town of Fagersta. The attack left one person dead and three others injured. Two of the injured were teenagers and are in critical condition.
as the local Swedish media reported, the Police shot and wounded and later arrested the suspect, an 18-year-old man, who is said to be a former student at the school. The attack came just days after students returned from their summer break and schools reopened. Sweden’s Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, and King Carl XVI Gustaf strongly condemned the incident, calling it a “horrific tragedy” and a “dark day” for the country. As of now, police are investigating the official motive behind this attack.
Sweden has been facing such these attacks for too long; there were many attacks that occur often in public places especially in schools the most horrific attack occurred in Orebro city on 04 February 2025, when a heavy armed man attacked an adult municipal school and killed 10 people. The school was used to educate immigrants about the Swedish language, culture and skills to pave the way for their integration into the Swedish society. The mass shooting was worst massacre case ever in Sweden. Later the Swedish government said that the attacker was psychologically sick. However, the fear and uncertainty still remain intact as many parents afraid for their children.
